EXPERIENCING LA DOLCE VITA
Italian for "the Sweet Life"
We began our stroll through the Piazza Navona at twilight. As the sun set on Rome we experienced a completely different feeling; the city bathed in golden light! Exquisite. We then made our way toward the Pantheon which was romantically illuminated. (We think it’s more beautiful at night) We took our time and eventually arrived at the famous Trevi Fountain. ♪"Three Coins in the Fountain"♪ was written to honor Trevi.
Again, the fountain has a nighttime allure that is so captivating! We lingered here for quite awhile – why not? Rome at night is definitely La Dolce Vita!

DOES IT GET ANY BETTER? I THINK NOT!
Colossus Colosseum – Largest ever built in the Roman empire!
The Colosseum is an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome. Try to wrap your mind around this: Construction started in 72 AD (old enough for ya?) and when complete was capable of seating more than 50,000 spectators who came to witness gladiatorial contests, public spectacles, and dramas. Perhaps they coined the phrase, “Variety is the spice of life!” To have seen Rome adorned back in the day would probably have been more than our little Texas hearts could take. (okay, nothing is really little in Texas… but you get the idea) Although this monumental structure has fallen into ruin, even today it is an imposing and beautiful sight.

WALK LIKE A ROMAN
Who wants to walk like an Egyptian when you can walk like a Roman?
Can you picture this in your mind’s eye? What would it would have felt like to casually stroll past such magnificent structures; augmented with color and character. It seems all of Rome is layered in a fashion referred to by our guide as lasagna. Everything is built on top of one another. i.e.:You could be living right next to a roman column!

ARRIVEDERCI ROMA
The last gathering with our group was at an awesome restaurant with a proud host who made us feel at home.
Seated in the dining room, we were surrounded by ancient Roman walls. Many parts of the wall are original stone, dating back to 600 AD. Could we sense the voices and feelings of those long ago people whispering to us in the city they built? Perhaps. |
“Did we see it all? Of course not... that is why we threw coins into the Trevi Fountain in hopes of returning one day!” –Rick Steves |
