THE MAGIC OF VENICE
The camera is clicking and the video is rolling before we ever stepped ashore!
Magical? Yes, and so much more! Before our next trip to Venice we MUST learn to be more decisive. So many delightful shops. And the local artists... too many beautiful paintings! |
FINALLY SOME PASTADinner with our group was super tasty in Venice.
That’s Tagliatelle pasta- *note the extra cheese! This is the place we were introduced to Lemon Soda. A new liquid favorite! |
ITS NOT VENICE WITHOUT
You already know the answer... A gondola ride at night put to music. You've gotta take along the handsome vocalist and his accordion accompanist. Talk about romantic.
Funniest night ever. I think you had to be there for what started out as a casual question... you know, show an interest in the local people..
"So, how late do you have to work as a gondolier?" "Hmmm, that depends. How late do you want me to work?" "In your dreams!" "In my dreams? I am an Italian man... In your dreams!" That's about the time Trena started thinking, "When you get off work you'll probably be going home to Mama!" haha |
A DAY IN THE CITY OF LOVE BEGINS WITH
A walking tour with Betta, a spunky native of Venice. We all laughed when Tanisha got the hiccups and Betta asked, “Who has this problem?”
We had a tremendous day with her, touring the winding alleyways. She is a proud Venetian and an excellent guide. Her English is fantastic and her sense of humor memorable. |
We felt so lucky when Betta took us to a Venetian mask studio for a live demonstration. Who was Dottor Peste with that long, hollow beak, and what was the Bauta mask used for? It wasn’t for Carnevale! We learned that the masks served an important social purpose of keeping every citizen on an equal playing field. Masked, a servant could be mistaken for a nobleman—or vice versa. The morale of the people was maintained through the use of masks—for with no faces, everyone had voices.
NOT ALL THOSE WHO WANDER ARE LOST
Usually getting lost makes you anxious, but we were anxious to get lost! Not knowing where we were going led to all sorts of fun discoveries and we loved winding through the streets. We discovered an abandoned courtyard and twisted Tanisha's arm to get her sing a few bars, "I am your angel of music!"... Her voice echoed off of the courtyard walls and it was amazing!
EATING GELATO AGAIN?
Giving in to this temptation was oh-so-much fun and we are not ashamed to say that we enjoyed this treat twice in one day! Flavors and quality vary from place to place,
so it is best to sample them all. 😏
Our personal favorite was Stracciatella (strass-e-ah- tell-ah), which is infinitely easier to eat than to pronounce. It sounds exotic but is more or less a simple chocolate chip ice cream. Trust the Italians to make everything sound better!

"Who needs a sexy Italian man?... My man framed my painting from Venice." Beautiful! |
